You are an Internet Peasant
We have been overreliant on Social Media and that’s a fact. When you use any Social media website, remember that it is not your property. You are merely using services of a platform. You are a tenant to them. They are owners of any content that you create and they can remove you from the platform whenever they want for any reason and you will lose access to your content. What’s more interesting is that Facebook, Instagram and other social media companies make billions every year on basis of the content that you create on their platform. However, you don’t earn a single paisa from your daily efforts. This means that you are a Peasant or a Slave on their digital land and social media giants are the landlords.
Censorship and Freedom of Speech
One of the most Orwellian occurances happening right now is Censorship on big Social media platforms. Be it due to government pressure or their own political alignments, Social media giants have been actively censoring our speech and in many cases blocking it theryby attacking our freedom of speech. They can do it because they own the website/app and you have no ownership over anything you do on it.
What happens then is we see what Facebook allows us to see. We speak only what Twitter allows us to speak. They change the way we communicate and thereby changing our thought patterns. Social media brainwash is a real thing and they engage us in nonsense politics and we lose precious time we could spend doing great things.
Time to be an Internet Landlord
Now that you understand you’re a slave, it is time to work towards becoming an Internet Landlord. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to create a website or any technical stuff. Do it even if you don’t know what you’re doing. There is plenty of stuff available over the internet to help you out. Being an Internet Landlord is not only an asset to you but an asset to your followers. They get to hear from you directly without any censorship or change in the meaning of what you say.
What can you do with your Website?
Pretty much anything you want. Since it is your website, there is no one to stop you from doing anything except for your own technical knowledge to build it. You can
- Start your own blog like millions of other bloggers out there and be able to speak your mind without worry of anyone blocking your speech.
- Share your knowledge via Video tutorials. This way, you can be your own youtube if you want to.
- Use your website as Facebook or Instagram and post your updates and photos directly.
- Create a web forum to enable your participants to have discussions on your website.
- Create a chat forum so instead of relying on Whatsapp, you can have your own chat room.
- Have your own email service instead of GMail or Outlook. Your own email ID such as yourname@yoursite.com looks professional too.
- Start a personal Voice/Video calling server so you don’t have to rely on any Social Media apps.
- Start earning money online by having ads on your website if you wish to.
- Have a complete Social Media experience by using RSS Feeds like the one at MemeBadger
These are just a few examples of what you can do. When you own your own Web Space, your imagination is the limit to what you can achieve.
How to Start your own Website
